From 20 to 25 July, 2014, a new edition of the International AIDS Conference will be held in Melbourne, Australia. Calls have been opened for grants and abstracts for what promises to be another costly and trivial conference in which Latin America will be increasingly absent.

UNAIDS has urged countries to rapidly expand access to antiretroviral medication to maximize treatment benefits and HIV prevention. It communicated this message on july 13th, at the world event in Abuja, Nigeria, and today in Panama, for Latin America.

Special Report–The 43rd General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) was held in Antigua, Guatemala, between 4th and 6th June. Member states adopted a strongly worded declaration to promote and protect the rights of vulnerable people who are affected by or live with HIV/AIDS and also adopted two Interamerican conventions against discrimination.
